3 Steps to Prepping Your Lawn for a Home Sale
Most real estate agents will tell you that curb appeal is a big part of selling a home. This includes your lawn too, whether it’s in the front or the back of your home. Keep it looking good all year-round with these tips:
Rake leaves and cut the grass. If you’re selling your home in the fall or winter, make sure you rake the leaves regularly, or arrange for someone else to. It only takes a few minutes out of the day, but leaves can pile up fast, causing your lawn to look unkempt. After a rainfall, the leaves can get slimy and slippery, too. And, unless there is snow covering the ground, make sure your lawn is cut regularly.
Seed your lawn. If your lawn is looking a little patchy, seed it. Seeding not only makes your lawn healthier and lush, but also prevents weeds from taking over. Make sure your lawn is levelled before you start seeding, especially in the spring when excess rain might collect in lower pockets and wash away the seeds before they have a chance to germinate.
Add fertilizer. It’s a good idea to fertilize your lawn regularly, as each season brings complications. In the summer, nutrients can be damaged by dry heat, while in the winter, frost or ice can damage existing nutrients. If you fertilize your lawn just before the first snowfall, however, the fertilizer will remain frozen in the soil long enough to nourish the ground throughout the season.
Don’t underestimate the power of a healthy, well-trimmed lawn on a home for sale. Not only does it contribute to curb appeal, but it shows prospective buyers that the home has been well taken care of over the years.
