4 New Year's Resolutions to Consider This Year
As the new year begins, many of us Canadians have goals and resolutions on our mind. Maybe you’re still struggling to focus in on a goal or two. Overwhelming thoughts can take over when it comes to the pressure of a clean slate. Here are a few solid resolution ideas to consider implementing this year:
Get better sleep. Seems simple enough, yet it’s something so many of us fail at. If there’s one change you can make that will impact your overall health and well-being, getting a good sleep every night is it. It’s also easier than you might think. Get light-blocking curtains, invest in some good sheets and a supportive mattress, set the temperature to a cooler setting, and, if you need it, find a noise machine to help ease you into a deep sleep.
The best way to get a better sleep is to ensure the environment you’re in is as conducive to it as it can possibly be. And if you have severe insomnia issues, now is the time to make that appointment with a sleep clinic and get to the bottom of it.
Read more. If you’re already content with where things are at in your career, health and personal life, a great resolution is to read more. It’s something you might have stopped doing or slowed down on as you’ve gotten busier over the years, and implementing it will noticeably increase your well-being and keep your cognitive strength on point. Make a goal—it can be as simple as reading a book every month. By 2020, you’ll impress everyone with your wealth of newfound knowledge.
Learn a new skill. Always wanted to learn guitar but never had the time to learn? Why not now? Still buying take out every night for dinner? Now’s the time to learn to cook. And if you’ve always wanted to learn a second or third language, let 2019 be the year you finally do it.
Improve one aspect of your health. Too often we make huge health goals that involve completely changing our lifestyle and habits to something unrecognizable and unenjoyable (meaning unmaintainable). Instead of committing to an overwhelming overhaul you will give up on, choose just one thing—one healthy habit to implement. Once you have it down and it has become an unchangeable part of your routine, you can focus on another. One at a time will make for lasting changes you maintain.
