6 Items You Should Never Pass Up at a Yard Sale
It’s no secret that many love to go hunting for a bargain. What could be some people’s trash could be others’ treasures, and there’s no better place to find a real deal than at a yard sale.
If you’ve ever wondered if you should actually buy that item when you’re making the weekend rounds to yard sales, here are a few things experts believe you should never just walk past without giving them a thought.
Big Pieces of Furniture
A one-of-a-kind piece of furniture can give a room its own sense of style, and a yard sale may be just the place to find it. This is especially true if you’re looking for something with a vintage feel. If you can look past old upholstery (since most everything can be given a new lease on life with new fabric), you might just walk away with a showpiece.
Art
If you’re looking to add some colour to your home without busting the bank, you might find some perfect pieces of art to jazz up your walls. You might even find some cool work from local artists that might actually be a wise investment. And don’t discount the frames. New frames are expensive to purchase, and you might be able to find gorgeous ones at yard sales.
Retro Jewellery
All things retro have become really popular over the last few years and that also includes wearable pieces of art. Older pieces of jewellery were made to stand the test of time and everything old becomes new again. If you’re looking for an unusual, funky piece, a yard sale is where you might find it.
Kitchen Stuff
If someone is getting rid of Grandma’s old cast iron skillet, you might want to grab it up fast. Cast iron is one of the best cooking materials and it will last forever. It can usually be restored no matter what its condition. Other things to look for include oven-proof baking dishes, vintage Pyrex and porcelain or ceramic dinnerware.
Workout Gear
People who buy exercise equipment usually have the best of intentions, but the truth is once it’s purchased, much of it just goes unused. So if you’re bent on getting into shape, you might want to scour yard sales for things like weights and workout benches. You might even find more high-end items like treadmills and stationary bikes for decent prices.
Tools
Nail guns, compressors and drills are expensive to purchase new, so if you want to round out your tool collection, look for these things at a yard sale. Make sure to ask first if they’re in working order.
