3 Decor Trends We Hope Never Come Back in Style

Just like with fashion (hello shoulder pads), there are interior design trends that should be left in the decade they once dominated.  It’s no secret that home decor in times past tended to be a little… ah… intense. Here are five trends we hope stay in the archives for good.

Mirrored Bathrooms
Seeing a dozen reflections of yourself while popping in for a quick bathroom break seems overwhelming at best and maybe even disorienting at worst. And think about how much effort it would take to keep them all clean! If you think getting one bathroom mirror splattered with toothpaste is bad, imagine an entire room of it. While it’s true that mirrors can do wonders for small spaces, hopefully the trend of covering an entire bathroom in them stays out of vogue.

Waterbeds
Once all the rage, waterbeds are a pretty baffling concept in retrospect. They need to be plugged in, come with the risk of leaks and seem like they might have the potential to make someone seasick as they flop onto their bed after a long day. No thanks! We’ll take a quality memory foam mattress any day.

Ruffled or Crocheted Toilet Accessories
There was a time in the 80s when decorative toilet seat and tank covers were a must-have. They could be colour coordinated with shower curtains or bathmats. Not only do they look decidedly over-the-top—like drapes for your toilet!—but it doesn’t seem terribly sanitary either. Hopefully it was also in style to wash them as regularly as towels!

Plastic Flowers… Everywhere
While it’s true that some fake plants look pretty passable today and may even have their place (like in a room that gets absolutely no sunlight), the trend for visibly plastic ferns and oversized canvas bouquets was never a good look. If you’re worried about a lack of green thumb, there are plenty of plants that survive low-light environments or minimal watering, so you don’t have to resort to faking it.
