3 Must-Have Features You Might Not Actually Need

Luxury can mean different things to different people. Despite that, there are some people who tend to assume that luxury properties all need to have certain features, and that simply isn’t true. These common “must-have” features might not be necessary to have on your luxury wish list at all:

A Detached Home
Many people assume that a luxury property can only consist of a detached or single-family home. However, the luxury lifestyle can take many forms. Don’t think that a penthouse condo or an elegant townhouse can’t give you exactly what you need.

A Separate Garage
Many people also assume that a spacious detached garage with room for multiple vehicles is a pinnacle of luxury living. But parking your car and carrying groceries from the garage into the house—possibly in rain or snow—is decidedly not luxurious. Condos and townhomes often have underground garages that are heated and allow you to move seamlessly from your home to your vehicle without braving the elements. And that sounds a lot more luxurious.

A Fireplace
Though a fireplace can be cozy and lend a sense of elegance to homes in the winter, many luxury buyers are realizing that they’re not the be-all of luxury homes. Fireplaces require maintenance and aren’t always energy efficient. They can be a great addition, but your luxury home might be fine without one, not to mention you’d have more wall space!

Extra Bedrooms
Though many people associate a luxury home with one that’s also spacious, too many extra bedrooms can be wasteful, not to mention time-consuming to clean. A single guest bedroom and a den might be just fine for your needs. A luxury home can still be compact, as long as the space is used well.
