What Makes a Good Location to Work From Home?

It’s no secret that many of today’s high-end buyers have something in common—remote work is giving them the freedom to live anywhere they please. Within the home, we know that preferences have shifted and a proper workspace is more important than ever before, but what about location preferences? Following are a few important characteristics that make for an ideal location to work from home.

Quality of Life
This is often the top priority for remote workers in search of a new place to call home. Largely, they’re gravitating toward locations that are rich in cultural amenities, experiences and boast favorable weather. Having the ability to bring their careers with them means that quality of life is usually the determining factor for online workers.

Access to Nature
The majority of people working from home spend their days staring at a computer screen, so it’s no surprise really that many of them prefer to enjoy their free time outside. Locations that are drawing the most telecommuters, or “Zoom towns,” as they’ve come to be known, typically have access to outdoor recreational areas and an abundance of natural beauty, such as mountains, beaches, rivers or lakes.

High-Speed Internet
As many remote workers know by now, internet speeds can vary greatly from city to city and, if you’re living in an area that’s on the slower end of the spectrum, it can significantly hinder productivity. For those who work online and rely on fast download speeds, living in a city that’s wired with fiber-optic internet, as opposed to broadband, will probably be a requirement.

Sense of Community
By now, it’s common knowledge that one of the downsides of remote work is that it can often lead to feelings of isolation. That’s why it’s important to live in a neighborhood that has a strong sense of community and where you can still feel connected with the people around you. It’s easy to overlook, but living in an area that’s vibrant and energized can make all the difference in your daily life.
