National Survey Shows More Consumers Find Their Agent on realtor.com® Than Other National Portals

The National Association of Realtors surveyed 72,000 consumers to create a “Profile of Home Buyers in Sellers” in 2014. As an addendum to this survey, which reveals the steps they took in buying or selling a home, an additional question was asked; “Did you find your agent on realtor.com, Zillow, Trulia or Homes.com?”

Proving that the quality of traffic on realtor.com is indeed more likely to convert to tangible results for REALTORS®, more consumers indicated they found their agent they ultimately transacted with on realtor.com than the other three, by 17%, 133% and 250% respectively.

We asked some of the agents who closed these transactions why more of the consumers who actually close are connecting to them through realtor.com and resolving in a sale.

According to Sheila Tatum of WRC realty, the accuracy of the listing data and the completeness and timeliness of the leads she received may have been contributing factors. “Realtor.com® is a smart way to receive leads, the information on the homes is current, the email addresses, and client phone numbers are received right away which makes it convenient to both email and text the client.  It makes it easy to go back and send multiple messages to your client, providing a simple way to do lead follow-up!”

Realtor.com has taken pride in the fact that the listing data is more accurate because it is all derived from reputable sources. Another question posed on the same survey seems to validate this is important to consumers was asked, “Was having accurate listing information important in your choice of websites used to find a home? “ 93% thought having accurate listings was very important or extremely important with 69% checking “extremely.”

A further probing question was “How accurate was the information viewed on realtor.com, Zillow, Trulia, Homes.com?

  • 48 % of those who used realtor.com thought the data was Very Accurate(, 39 moderately, 4 not very)
  • 29% of those who used Zillow thought the data was Very Accurate , (52 moderately, 16 not very)
  • 24% of those who used Trulia thought the data was Very Accurate, (50 moderately, 17 not very)
  • 18% of those who used Homes.com thought the data was Very Accurate (45 moderately, 15 not very)

The combination of accurate data for the consumer and quality information delivered to the agents and broker seem to be the ingredients that spell success.

According to Jules Farmer from Phantom Realty in Southern California, “I have converted more realtor.com leads this year than any other leads that I have. Probably 50% of my business has been from realtor.com leads and these are people who are serious and are ready to buy”.

We have compiled interviews with REALTORS who have had good success on realtor.com, not just in acquiring leads, but building their businesses with them; expanding teams, opening new offices and improving the return on their online investment.
