We all know those agents who remain cool, calm and collected in the face of anything—challenging clients, setbacks in a transaction, you name it. Instead of throwing in the towel, they dig deep and are determined to turn any problem into an opportunity to grow and thrive. They’re able to tap into their knowledge and experience to face challenges head-on, and have enough confidence in their abilities to risk failure in an effort to achieve success. In short, these agents are unstoppable!
The way you react when you’re faced with challenges has a tremendous impact on your success. If you want to become unstoppable in your career and life, follow these simple steps.
What drives you?
Goals are more than just a list of prospective achievements; they also provide important motivation to help you live your best life. They give you something to strive for as well as something to focus on when you hit a rut or a challenge. Once you’ve created goals to reach, refer to them on a daily basis to stay motivated and focused when challenges arise.
Be resilient.
Winston Churchill said, “Never, never, never give up.” When you’re faced with a situation where you’re tempted to quit, don’t. Resilient people are able to recover from setbacks, often viewing them as an opportunity to test their skills and learn new ones. When you feel like giving up, remember that you have the skills, knowledge and inner strength to handle anything that comes your way.
Learn from your experiences.
It’s easy to become so consumed thinking about what you should have done, said, etc. in a given situation that it’s nearly impossible to move forward. You can’t change the past; you can only learn from it. However, if you learn from the experience, you’ll be better prepared to face other challenges in the future.
Visualize your dreams.
Can you picture what your life and business will look like when you’ve achieved your goals? Visualization is a powerful practice that the most successful people, including athletes and entrepreneurs, use to help them stay on track and motivated to succeed. Although the exercise only takes a few minutes a day, its benefits are sure to last much longer. To get even more from the exercise, write down what you see and feel during the exercise. Then, when you’re faced with a challenge and are tempted to quit, you can remind yourself of your vision for the future and find the courage to continue.
Have a sense of humor.
Hollywood legend Katharine Hepburn said, “Whatever happens to you, you have to keep a slightly comic attitude. In the final analysis, you have got not to forget to laugh.” Although it can be tough sometimes, nothing diffuses a stressful situation like humor. It helps you maintain perspective, improves your attitude and is good for your health, too!
If you don’t believe in you, who will? Have faith that you have the skills, expertise and personal strength to handle any situation you face. This faith extends to others as well. It’s easy to be cynical about the actions or intentions of others; however, have faith that those who you’ve invested time and energy in will follow through and meet your expectations.
Remember what matters most.
Having your priorities straight allows you to ignore distractions so that you can focus on the people and activities that matter. If you’re not sure what your priorities are, make a list and put the most important items at the top—you know, the activities that absolutely have to get done that day, no matter what. Do this each day to ensure that you spend your time and energy on what truly counts.
