Offices that operate like teams tend to be more productive, with happier agents. But how can you encourage teamwork in your office? If you’re a broker, office manager or business owner, consider the following ideas:
Host informal project-oriented social gatherings. Company game nights or community service activities like tree-planting or trash pickup can offer your agents the opportunity to work together outside the office, which can then enhance collaboration within.
Assign group or paired projects. If your office doesn’t already have clear team-focused projects, create a few. They don’t need to be immense. Even small tasks can be turned into teamwork, like pairing two agents together to come up with ideas for a new project roll-out. Many tasks you may typically dole out to one individual can often be expanded for a team.
Set them up for success. Make sure agents have time in their day to work on team projects, and the proper project management tools to make their tasks easier.
Hire with teams in mind. If you want an office that operates like a team, look for agents with team-building mindsets. While lone wolves can be impressive in their ambition and drive, those who depend on their community to build success may be a better bet in the long run.
Reward great teamwork. To encourage more teamwork, reward the teams already doing well. It doesn’t need to be a huge reward—a coffee gift card or write-up in the company newsletter or website can be enough.
