Benjamin Moore has named their 2020 color of the year. First light, a pale, rosy hue with cool undertones, is versatile and light enough that it’s almost a neutral. If you’re selling your home and want to give your staging a contemporary edge, why not try incorporating first light into one—or more—of your rooms? Here’s how:

Makeover a door. Try painting a door for an unexpected twist. This works for a solid door, or for the border around a set of French or frosted doors. You could even paint a set of closet doors for a fun punch of colour in the bedroom.

Experiment with kitchen cabinets. Going full-on pink in the kitchen might be a bold move for staging, although this cool rosy shade has some definite potential. If you’re looking to spruce up your prep and entertaining space, try painting just the lower or upper cabinets, or perhaps just a few open shelves.

Paint a feature wall. Why not paint a single wall in a living room, bedroom or office? First light is soft enough not to be overwhelming, so it makes a great option for a feature wall.

Give an older piece of furniture a new lease on life. If painting a whole wall isn’t your thing, why not try giving some new life to an older piece of furniture? Whether it’s a set of kitchen chairs, a dresser or a small side table for cocktails, this is a commitment-free option that still has an impact.

Dress up some picture frames. Why not find some inexpensive Ikea frames and give them a coat of paint? First light would look particularly striking paired with black and white images or prints
