The holidays are all about gratitude–but when is the last time you said a big ‘thank you’ to your home? Below are five ways you can say ‘thank you!’ to your living space.
Get efficient. An energy-efficient home is good for the planet, and your wallet, and there are some smaller tweaks you can make that won’t break the bank. These include switching to LED or CFL bulbs, installing a programmable thermostat, sealing your windows and doors, adding insulation to your attic or swapping out your old toilets for efficient ones.
Add some art. Treat yourself—and your home—to some original artwork. This will make your space more beautiful, and improve your mood. There’s no need to spend a ton, either. Check out a nearby crafts fair or gallery to find a local artist you can support.
Declutter. Tell your home you love it by tackling clutter. Go room by room, searching for items you don’t need. You can even make a game out of it—points for every item you can part with.
Have a family DIY day. Involve the family and try out a few simple DIY projects, like repainting the bathroom cabinets, refinish that old kitchen table, update your lighting fixtures or make that walk-in closet into a home office.
Detail. Give your home some TLC by choosing one area of your space and giving it a good, deep detailed clean. Tackle all of the grout in the bathroom, pull the appliances from the walls in the kitchen, or dust the dining room and rewax that floor.
