Home maintenance is the key to avoiding any seasonal home problem, and summer comes with its share of risks to your property. These problems can keep you from enjoying fun in the sun this summer, and some can even pose a safety risk.

Yard Care Difficulties
Your lawn will need extra care during the summer months. Avoid dealing with a dead lawn or an excessive water bill this season. Service your irrigation system to save on water usage and prevent landscape damage. Program your sprinkler systems to optimal summer settings to keep your yard looking its best. However, don’t forget about any local ordinances for water usage during the summer when evaluating your lawn care.

Fire Risk
Summer droughts can lead to an increased fire risk. If you live in an area prone to wildfire risk, be sure to keep your home and family safe by following firewise guidelines. Remove debris, trim outside foliage and remove dead plants. If you’re grilling this year don’t forget to ensure they are positioned away from buildings. Check with your local fire department for more info specific to your area.

An Ugly Exterior
Summer is a time for outdoor parties and events, don’t get stuck looking at a grimy home exterior. Before summer fun starts in full swing, powerwash any areas that need some love. Be sure to use proper powerwash settings for your home’s exterior, your concrete sidewalks and driveway, and your outdoor furniture. With the right settings, you can accomplish a lot of freshening up without risking damage.

Pool Damage and Safety Risks
Summer sun means pool time for a lot of families. If your family is excited to swim this year, don’t get stuck with pool problems that stop your fun. More importantly, don’t risk anyone’s safety by failing to follow pool safety guidelines. Get the pool cleaned. Make sure it’s in prime condition and look for any worn items that need replacement. Be sure to add a fence to keep neighborhood children out of harm’s way.

Hot Home
Few things are more uncomfortable than a hot home due to a broken air conditioner. To ensure your household is comfortable all season long, have your HVAC or AC serviced in advance of the summer heat. This can ensure you’re not stuck in a long waiting list, or paying for an expensive replacement or repair when regular maintenance could have done the trick to prevent excess wear.
