In a dip at the end of the season, showings slowed, down 0.6 percent, according to the August ShowingTime Showing Index®. August was the fourth month in a row of softening. Activity in the Midwest slipped 2.2 percent year-over-year, while in the Northeast slumped 1 percent and the West tumbled 8.9 percent. Activity in the South, however, increased 4.9 percent.
“The inventory squeeze seen in the West Region and more recently in the Northeast has increasingly affected many U.S. markets,” says Daniil Cherkasskiy, chief analytics officer at ShowingTime. “This has impacted prospective homebuyers’ options and caused showing traffic to slow earlier than usual.”
The ShowingTime Showing Index is compiled using data from property showings scheduled across the country on listings using ShowingTime products and services, which facilitate more than four million showings each month. The Index tracks the average number of appointments received on an active listing during the month.
