If you’re leaving your current home for a new one, expect one of the most stressful experiences you can go through. But listening to your favorite tunes as you pack and move into your new home is a great way to lighten the mood and add a little fun to a long and tiring day. Not only that, putting together a playlist for moving day creates a nice distraction from all the pressures that come with the process of buying or selling a home.

So, get ready to log onto Spotify and create the perfect Moving Day playlist, including these songs about moving:

“Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song)”

This Billy Joel classic from his legendary album “The Stranger” may not be about buying a new home, but it is about taking a journey toward a new life. This is the perfect tune to play in the car as you drive away from your old home—the end even features the sound of a car peeling out over Joel’s driving piano.

“I Like to Move It”

You might think you heard this song enough in the ’90s, but a few more times as you do the hard work of gathering up every item in your possession into boxes could be a lot of fun. You can also make a game of it. Put it on repeat and see how long it takes before you can’t take it anymore.

“Our House”

There are actually two well-known songs with this title. The first is a gentle, catchy and pleasant song by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. It’s a terrific tune to listen to in those moments when you get frustrated or exhausted with moving, with its imagery of relaxing by a fire and resting your head because “everything is done.” Who wouldn’t want to live in a very, very fine house with two cats in the yard?

Then there’s Madness’ 1982 hit, “Our House,” which is a little different, and maybe a little more realistic. It’s about fathers working, mothers who need a rest, kids playing and older kids sleeping and dating. “Our house, it has a crowd, there’s always something happening, and it’s usually quite loud.” Not as relaxing as CSN&Y, but it sets a mood.

“Movin’ On Up”

Anyone who grew up in the 1970s is sure to feel a bit of joy when they hear this song, which was the theme song for the hit sitcom, “The Jeffersons.” It’s catchy and upbeat, and it’s all about moving into a beautiful new home. Maybe you’re not moving to a deluxe apartment in the sky, but your new home is part of the American dream, and living that dream is what this song is all about.
