If you’ve recently bought an apartment in a city, you probably have a lot of interesting neighbors. But people who live in urban areas tend to be busy because of work, family commitments and taking advantage of everything there is to do in their exciting and vibrant community.
But getting to know your neighbors is well worth it. It’s always nice to make new friends and bringing the people in your building together will foster good feelings. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to share information about favorite restaurants, activities and even baby sitters and dog walkers with each other. It’s even a networking opportunity—the person living down the hall could have a great job lead for you.
Have fun while meeting your neighbors with these activities.
Reading Clubs
Everyone wants to read more and establishing a book club is a great way to encourage people to dive into a great novel or insightful work of non-fiction. Ask around to find out who might be interested or place a notice on a bulletin board or Facebook group for your building.
Movie Nights
Set up monthly movie showings in a common room or in the apartment of someone who owns a huge TV. Pick films that are high quality and entertaining and arrange for wine and cheese after screenings so that people can talk about the movie and socialize.
Tour Groups
Your city has lots of interesting and historic places to visit. Get together with a neighbor and learn about your neighborhood—then arrange for tours to the great places near your building. These can be museums, historic sites, parks or performing arts venues. If a large group goes, you can probably get a discount price to admissions. You can also arrange a lunch outing at a local restaurant.
Food and Wine Events
Hire a cooking instructor who teaches groups how to prepare special meals. This is a fun way for everyone to get closer while improving their culinary skills. Another option is a wine club, where you try different vintages, learn about pairings with meals or even take a tour of a winery.
Groups like these are a great way to have fun and create special bonds with your neighbors.
