A shuffling among leadership in the technology space could be pointing to bolstered efforts within real estate—an industry that’s currently embracing digital innovation.
Updater, a technology company within the relocation industry in the United States, recently appointed former WeWork and DoorDash executive Josh Abrams as chief product officer. In this newly established executive leadership position, Abrams will report to Updater’s founder and chief executive officer, David Greenberg, and will lead product development and design for the company.
“Josh’s track record of building and scaling disruptive, complex, multi-sided marketplaces through hyper-growth makes him the perfect person to lead our product development team,” said Greenberg. “His entrepreneurial spirit and deep technology expertise will be instrumental as we evolve and advance our mover and partner platforms. We look forward to benefiting from Josh’s experience as we continue to streamline and simplify the fragmented relocation process by introducing innovative products and services that delight our customers and support our partners and service providers.”
Abrams’ hire follows the recent addition of Jeffrey Gerson as chief marketing officer, helping to strengthen Updater’s multi-disciplined management team. Together, Abrams and Gerson will focus on enhancing Updater’s value proposition. Abrams intends to build out Updater’s product team and build a suite of capabilities aimed at creating a more consumer-centric experience that also benefits partners and service providers.
Abrams brings to Updater more than 15 years of experience in technology, product and design, having pioneered innovative products for a number of high-growth companies. Previously, Josh was the VP of Design at WeWork, head of design for food-delivery company DoorDash, and the global creative director at PayPal.
“Updater has built the best platform to automate and simplify the moving process and established itself as the clear market leader, supporting approximately 26% of the 12.6 million U.S. households who move annually,” said Abrams. “We are helping families save time and providing peace of mind during one of life’s most exciting and hectic events. By focusing more directly on the customer experience, we are poised to capture even greater market share, creating a flywheel effect that benefits all stakeholders. I’ve been a part of some exponential growth stories in the past, and I couldn’t be more excited to join Updater at this critical point in its evolution.”
