If you’re looking to spruce up your home design in the year ahead, there’s no faster and easier—not to mention, affordable—way to do so than with a fresh coat of paint. An on-trend paint color can quickly revive any room, breathing new life into furnishings and providing a brand new vibe for your interior design.
Wondering what shade to choose? The Spruce talked to home design experts to get their recommendations on trending paint colors for 2024. There are several color palettes to choose from, so one is sure to fit the bill for your home.
Warm whites. While white is always a perennial favorite when it comes to neutral tones, this year’s trending shades will be marked by warm undertones so look for shades of vanilla, off-white and cream, as opposed to cooler tones that incorporate hints of blue or gray.
Olive and dark green. Shades of green have long been popular in home design, but this year, we will see a movement toward darker shades as opposed to light and pastel tones. Olive green, in particular, is expected to have its moment in 2024.
Brown. According to designers, brown has been growing in popularity in the last few years and the trend is accelerating in 2024. Look for the whole spectrum to show up, including mushroom, taupe, mocha and espresso. The versatility of these brown hues allows you to dress it up or down depending upon the look you’re going for.
Blue. Some of the biggest paint brands are betting on blue in 2024. A classic color, blue evokes a range of styles depending on the shade, from subdued to dramatic. Lighter shades will make a room feel larger, while deeper shades create a moody and elegant look. All shades of blue are known for their calming effect, an added plus for all those rooms you relax in.
Moody tones. The jewel tone trend of the past couple of years will continue into 2024, along with moody shades of gunmetal and black. If you’re hesitant to paint walls in a deep shade, do a trial run by painting a piece of accent furniture or just one wall before going all-in.
Reds and pinks. Thanks to the success of the Barbie movie, designers are anticipating that reds and pinks will be making a statement in home design in 2024. These happy shades will add warmth and personality to a room, from cherry reds and rich burgundies to bright and pastel pinks. Designers say red and pink palettes work well in rooms with lots of natural light.
